Dahn Yoga Community Announces the Woodland Body + Brain Center as its Center of the Month

Center of the Month: Woodlands Body & Brain Center

Gilbert, Ariz. (PRWEB) January 24, 2012

Dahn Yoga & Health Centers, Inc., a national leader in health and wellness, is proud to announce that one of its franchises, a Texas yoga star, the Woodlands Body + Brain Center has been designated as Center of the Month for January 2012. The franchises have grown tremendously since their beginning and this studio, located 35 miles north of Houston, Texas, has been particularly adept at forging its own path of service and leadership.

Helping individuals balance their bodies and minds, center manager Maureen Godfrey may have been destined to fill the role of leader of her Dahn Yoga community. Although she spent time working as a high school dance teacher and a consultant for a Fortune 500 company, she eventually realized her life-long dream of helping others. After immersing herself in Dahn Yoga classes for four years, she opened her own BBC franchise.

“I feel very blessed with wonderful members who are very interesting people and the opportunity for me to grow through this BBC,” she said. “Any challenges bring opportunities.”

Godfrey’s gift with her students is undoubtedly a special one. In fact, one member, who was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer, approached Maureen for private lessons in order to improve her well-being and augment her medical treatments. Within four short months the novice practitioner witnessed an elevation in her physical and emotional states as well as the shrinking of her tumors. This may not be a typical story of health recovery at Woodlands, but it is a prime example of how people of various backgrounds and ability levels find an outlet for self-healing.

Going forward, Maureen explains that she wants to continue to help others understand the many Dahn Yoga benefits and expand her classes to hospitals and colleges in the area.

About Dahn Yoga:

In the United States, Dahn Yoga classes are offered at Dahn Yoga & Health Centers, Inc., a national leader in health and wellness. Dahn Yoga classes are also offered at Body & Brain franchise, affiliate and community-based locations.

Lose 10 Pounds A Month With This Chino Hills Weight Loss Program

Lose 10 Pounds A Month With This Chino Hills Weight Loss Program

Chino Hills, CA (PRWEB) January 05, 2012

Chino Hills weight loss will be on everyone’s mind once the New Year hits. The Fit Concepts facility is thriving with a fresh influx of clients who are serious about dropping dress sizes, pounds and body fat percentages. While many people join a gym in January, most new people are gone by spring because they lose the motivation to keep going or they are not getting the results they desire. Conversely, joining an established Chino Hills weight loss program puts people on the fast track to success.

“I think everyone arrives feeling a little guilty about their holiday eating and drinking,” says Sam Bakhtiar, Chino Hills weight loss expert and owner of the Fit Concepts weight loss facility. “Yet, they leave that initial one-on-one personal trainer consultation with very specific goals and timelines in mind, not to mention all the tools they need to be successful.” He adds that all new members get a customized monthly meal plan and a weekly group workout schedule. Their weight, inches and fitness levels are also measured so that progress can be charted from week to week.

“We get you into shape using cutting edge workouts that have been proven by science to make you lose fat and get toned as fast and as safely as possible,” Sam explains. “Xavier lost 15 pounds, Gia and Valerie lost 30, Leene lost 40, Brandon dropped 60. Then we have real heavyweight workout warriors like Ann Masters and Pam Tseko who lost over 100 pounds! Fit Concepts Chino Hills Weight Loss Center truly helps people of all shapes and sizes. Whether you want to lose or just improve your cardiac profile, we make sure it happens for you.”

The Fit Concepts Chino Hills weight loss program espouses practical eating with lean protein, fruits and vegetables, low-fat dairy and complex carbohydrates. There are no shakes, supplements or expensive prepackaged food. “We teach people how to eat for life,” Sam says. “There is no magic bullet, but there are healthier ways to indulge our cravings than to reach for a chocolate bar or bag of chips. There are small steps we can make – like not missing any meals, or cutting out red meat, that can have an immediate impact on how we look and feel.”

Through a unique 3-in-1 workout of cardio, strength-training and core conditioning done for an hour, three times per week, Chino Hills weight loss program participants are able to have fun and get fit at the same time. Results vary, but some Fit Concepts exercisers have been able to lose over 35 pounds of fat in less than 4 months.

“We aim to help you lose a safe, healthy two pounds a week,” Sam Bakhtiar explains. “Of course, the more you have to lose, the faster it tends to come off, so people who are carrying an extra 100 pounds will find that the fat just melts right off once we rev up their metabolism with strength and interval training.” He adds that anyone interested in losing 8 to 10 pounds a month can sign up for free nutrition counseling and a week of free boot camp sessions at http://www.FitConcepts.com.

Cleveland Clinic is observing National Nutrition Month by helping consumers learn and understand more about nutrition therapy as an effective treatment for a variety of illnesses and conditions, including diabetes, hypertension and pancreatic disorders.

“During National Nutrition Month, we want to remind Americans that a colorful plate of fruits and vegetables, combined with lean meats, fish and poultry, and low-fat dairy products serve as the foundation for a healthful eating plan. The center offers nutrition education resources from the American Dietetic Association, The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, The American Heart Association and others to support individuals as they make healthy nutritional choices at every life stage.

Cleveland Clinic Digestive Disease Institute (DDI) optimizes the patient experience by uniting specialists within one unique, fully integrated model of care. July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month poster is available for download at AllsupCares.com

Belleville, Ill. (PRWEB) June 28, 2011

Mental illness is a leading cause of disability, yet nearly two-thirds of people with a diagnosable mental illness do not seek treatment, and racial and ethnic minorities in the U.S. are even less likely to get help, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, and Allsup, a nationwide provider of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) representation, is raising awareness of the importance of treatment in improving mental health and accessing resources that support wellness.

“Unfortunately, disparities in mental health care still prevent people in diverse communities from getting the treatment they need,” said NAMI Multicultural Action Center director Majose Carrasco. “The outcomes of poorer quality of care come at a high cost to our community.”

The U.S. Surgeon General reported in 2001 that minorities:

Are less likely to receive diagnosis and treatment for their mental illness.
Have less access to and availability of mental health services.
Often receive a poorer quality of mental health care.
Are underrepresented in mental health research.

“Poorly delivered or unmet mental health may be a major contributing factor as to why individuals from racial and ethnic minority groups are overrepresented in many of the nation’s most vulnerable populations,” said Henry Acosta, executive director of the National Resource Center for Hispanic Mental Health (NRCHMH).

Mental disorders are as disabling as cancer or heart disease in terns of premature death and lost productivity. From 2005-06, mental illness was the second-most frequent condition, after arthritis, causing activity limitation among adults 18-44 years old, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Social Security Administration reports that nearly one-third of disabled workers receiving SSDI benefits have a mental disorder.

The SSDI program provides monthly income based on the FICA taxes individuals have paid during their working years as well as eventual access to Medicare. Both of these benefits contribute to stability and access to care for people with mental illness. However, obtaining these benefits is difficult without medical evidence of a severe disability.

“Medical documentation from mental health professionals is critical when seeking Social Security disability benefits,” said David Bueltemann, Allsup manager of senior claims representatives. “Social Security relies on medical diagnoses and details about the doctors they visit, information on the medical facilities they’ve used, medications and their side effects, as well as information on the restrictions and limitations that have resulted from the mental illness.”

During National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, learn more about mental health treatment and resources available through NAMI at NAMI.org and NRCHMH at NRCHMH.org.

“Treatment works and all Americans deserve a transformed mental health system that provides quality and culturally competent services to all citizens, regardless of their race, ethnic and language capabilities,” said Mr. Acosta.

For referrals to mental health resources near you, call the NAMI HelpLine at (800) 950-NAMI (6264). For information on SSDI eligibility call (888) 841-2126 or visit Allsup.com.

May 2011, Exercise is Medicine Month, Lauds the Benefits of Physical Activity

May 2011, Exercise is Medicine Month, Lauds the Benefits of Physical Activity

Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) April 29, 2011

The fourth annual Exercise is Medicine® Month kicks off on Sunday, celebrating the health benefits of exercise and offering resources to get people moving.

“Everyone should start or renew an exercise program now as an investment in life-long health,” said Robert E. Sallis, M.D., FACSM, chair of Exercise is Medicine. “Every person, regardless of age or health, is responsible for his or her own physical activity. There are far more reasons to exercise than excuses not to.”

Exercise Lowers Health Care Costs

Research shows that exercise helps treat and prevent more than 40 chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity and hypertension.

“While there are numerous reasons for soaring health care costs, one undeniable explanation is the poor physical health of so many Americans,” said Sallis. “Exercise is something every person can do to control the rising costs of health care and improve quality of life.”

Health Care Provider Involvement is Key

Most health care providers don’t realize the effect they have in motivating patients. Nearly 65 percent of patients say they would be more interested in exercising if advised by their doctor and given additional resources.

“Health care providers, including physicians, should assess physical activity at every appointment, write exercise prescriptions and be prepared to refer patients to fitness professionals,” said Sallis. “Every doctor should be an exercise advocate.”

A Two-Way Street

Starting a physical activity program can be as simple as taking a brisk walk each day and gradually building up frequency and duration. Patients are encouraged to talk to their health care provider for an exercise prescription if additional advice and guidance are needed.

Easy-to-Use Tools Available

Most people already know exercise is important. Many are overwhelmed by where and how to start, particularly those new to exercise, those who have an existing health condition and the elderly. Simple, easy-to-use exercise tips, tools and videos are available online to help them get started and stay motivated.

Partners Spread the Exercise Message

Exercise is Medicine partners include the American College of Nurse Practitioners, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and organizations and universities from all parts of the world.

Governors and mayors nationwide have already signed on to proclaim May 2011 as Exercise is Medicine Month in their communities.

The American College of Sports Medicine is the largest sports medicine and exercise science organization in the world. More than 40,000 international, national, and regional members and certified professionals are dedicated to advancing and integrating scientific research to provide educational and practical applications of exercise science and sports medicine.
